Rs 1,000-crore hits not far away: Karan Johar - The Economic Times

Dharma Productions has been in the business since 1976, when Yash Johar Ji, then a successful production controller for filmmakers like Sunil Dutt and Dev Anand, turned producer. His first film, Dostana (1980) starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and Zeenat Aman, and was directed by Raj Khosla. The film was a massive success, but from there onwards, his son Karan Johar entered the industry in 1998 and delivered the mega-blockbuster, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

The company has produced more than 40 films which include a series of blockbusters and critically acclaimed films like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘2 States’, ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and many more.
