RELIANCE and Nvidia to Build World’s Largest Data Center in Jamnagar

RELIANCE Industries, led by Mr. Mukesh Ambani, has announced plans to construct the world’s largest AI-powered data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. This ambitious project aims to position India at the forefront of global AI infrastructure

Location: Jamnagar, Gujarat, India; Capacity: 3 gigawatts (GW), surpassing the current largest data centres globally, which operate at less than 1 GW; Estimated Investment: Between $20 billion and $30 billion.

RELIANCE has partnered with NVIDIA to equip the data centre with cutting-edge AI semiconductors. NVIDIA’s GH200 Grace Hopper Superchips and DGX Cloud services will power critical AI functions such as machine learning, automation, and large-scale data analytics. This collaboration aims to make AI applications more affordable and accessible in India.

RIL announced the deal with Nvidia in October 2024, during the Nvidia AI Summit. As per the original proposal, Nvidia was to provide infrastructure support for a 1 Giga Watt data centre. Nvidia ceo Jensen Huang had then said that India is capable of making its own AI and the World’s Largest Data Center.

The data centre will be powered primarily by renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects developed by Reliance in the vicinity. This approach aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint of its operations

This project is expected to significantly enhance India’s data infrastructure, creating job opportunities and positioning the country as a key player in the global AI sector. By offering lower AI inferencing costs, Reliance aims to democratize access to AI technologies for businesses and start-ups across India
